About Me

Hi, I'm Amy!  I teach fifth grade Language Arts and Social Studies.  I love fifth graders and truly feel like they are the age group I was born to teach.  It's such a unique age, where their little personalities and confidence develop so much.  Fifth graders are just starting to figure out the world beyond themselves.  Their senses of humor grow right before my eyes.  And it doesn't hurt that with this age I still get pictures and hugs and sweet notes and girls who think I'm fashionable.

...and ballet recital invites!

Writing is my favorite subject to teach and my passion.  I got my Master's degree a few years ago through the Ohio Writing Project and love that I still get to do work with this awesome organization.  Recently, I taught an online grad class called Historical Perspectives, but I have also done presentations/workshops on grammar instruction, content area writing, classic literature, art & music in writing, autobiography, and multiculturalism.

I also love getting to talk to students about reading.  I love hearing from a student that they used to not like to read until I helped them discover Heartbeat or Fever 1793 or The Invention of Hugo Cabret or Rules or The Underdogs or The Giver.  I am a total nerd for meeting authors, from Chris Crutcher to Cynthia Lord...they are my rock stars!

I also love learning and teaching about American history and am eager to embark on our new CCSS journey in geography this year as well.
